Welcome & Opening Keynote — The Healing Power of Plants

Mankind has exploited the medicinal properties of plants for thousands of years, yet the role of plants in modern medicine is still considered to be peripheral by many people. Horticulturist and lecturer Timothy Walker, who recently retired as the long-time Director of the University of Oxford Botanical Garden, attempts to put the record straight. He’ll show that plant products from garden-worthy plants such as Digitalis, Podophyllum, Nicotiana, Papaver and Taxus, to name a few, are used every day by all of us to relieve pain and suffering, to heal wounds and cure diseases.
